Ms. Shands
has appeared to acclaim throughout the U.S., South America, and Europe
in performances applauded by the critics of such publications as the
New Yorker, the L.A. Times, Il Giornale (Milan),
Fanfare, and the American Record Guide. At the
completion of her Bachelor of Music degree from the Peabody
Conservatory of Music, she served as principal clarinetist of the
Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá. In 1995 Ms. Shands joined the faculty
of the University of the Pacific where she is currently associate
professor of clarinet, chair of performance studies, and coordinator
of chamber music at the Conservatory of Music
